While studying physics in Glasgow he formed the techno group Q-Tex in 1991 (debut live set that March), and was central to bringing harder-edged Belgian/Dutch techno influences into the UK's early-90s hardcore scene, later exporting Scottish sounds to Europe. He founded the Evolution Records label family in 1994, pivotal in popularising bouncy techno worldwide, and in 2003 became the first DJ in hardcore history to win 'Best DJ' at the Hardcore Heaven awards.
